Snapchat is known around the world as an application that allows users to send pictures and videos to each other that disappear automatically after a few seconds. The company appears to be branching out to publishing original content. According to reports Snapchat is going to produce original content like videos and articles in-house. It has reportedly hired several journalists and video producers over the past few months for this effort.

According to reports Snapchat’s original content is going to come following the launch of its Discover feature later this month. This ad-supported feature is going to include content provided by sources like Vice, CNN and ESPN as well.

Initially it was believed that Discover would only be used as a source to provide news and video clips from partners but now it looks like Snapchat wants to handle the content creation side of things as well.

According to Digiday the final version of Snapchat’s Discover feature is going to come with videos as well as text and pictures. Companies that have signed deals with Snapchat for this feature might be integrated right into Discover once the deals end after six months.

This won’t be Snapchat’s first move into content creation. With its Stories feature the company put together a broad collection of snaps pooled over 24 hours, they are curated and shared with the app’s users, the feature was first trialed during the Electronic Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas last year.
