kat-domain-seized

The action against major torrent sites continues. A couple of months back The Pirate Bay was taken offline following a raid, the infamous website only came back recently, and is now dealing with a fake torrent problem. KickassTorrents is another popular site which brings in millions of unique users daily. The site’s .so domain name was seized today briefly knocking it offline.

For quite a while now the torrent site has been operating with the Kickass.so domain name. This Somalian domain has now been listed as “banned” by the .SO registry which is why KAT was offline earlier today.

Popular torrent websites tend to become targets for copyrights holders who try various methods to get the sites taken offline. This is why sites like these have to shuffle their domains in order to evade such attempts.

Given that KAT’s domain has only been seized it didn’t take long for the team to get the site up and running again. They simply needed to shift to another domain, and they did, KickassTorrents has reverted to its .to domain for the time being.

The site will stick with that domain until the next attempt to take it offline comes, or it’ll move to one that’s less likely to come under pressure from copyright holders.
