Sony requires all PlayStation 4 owners who want to play games online to have a PlayStation Plus subscription. Without the subscription they can’t take advantage of the online multiplayer features of this console. PS Plus isn’t terribly expensive so those who do want to play online tend to pay for it. Often Sony will give a taste of these features to those who don’t subscribe to this service. It is opening up PlayStation 4’s online multiplayer features to all PS4 owners this weekend.

This means that PS4 owners can take advantage of the online multiplayer features even if they don’t have a PlayStation Plus subscription. This promotion is valid for the coming weekend and will last from February 13th to February 16th.

Sony’s latest promotional event will begin at 6am GMT February 13th and will end on the same time come February 16th. During this period all multiplayer games can be played online for free.

PlayStation 4 happens to be the first console from Sony to require a subscription to play online. Those who own a PlayStation 3 need not worry because they don’t need a subscription to play games online.

As an added incentive Sony also gives PS Plus subscribers free games every month plus discounts on content available for the PS Store.
