We picked up on an interview of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President Jim Ryan yesterday in which he was noncommittal about the release of Driveclub PlayStation Plus edition. He declined to confirm anything about the status of this edition in the interview which made it seem like Driveclub PS Plus edition had been thrown in limbo. Sony has now issued a clarification and has reiterated its commitment to making a free version of Driveclub available to PS Plus subscribers.

It was first said almost two years ago that PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a free edition of Driveclub. If they liked what they saw they could pay to upgrade to the full game.

However when the title was launched in October last year it was riddled with bugs and server side issues which forced the developer to postpone the launch of the PlayStation Plus edition.

Since then PS Plus subscribers have been waiting for a status update and yesterday’s interview didn’t make it seem like the free edition will be released at all.

Sony doesn’t want them to lose hope though. The company says that while it can’t provide an update regarding the timing for launch, it does confirm that “we are continually working on improving the server capacity to enable us to launch the PS Plus Edition as quickly as possible.”
