f8-notice1According to the folks at TechCrunch, they have recently received a notification sent out by the official Facebook F8 app that more or less confirms that Messenger as a platform is an actual thing, and that more information will be revealed at the conference itself. It was just yesterday that we reported on the rumor and now it looks like it could be true.

According to the rumor, just in case you might have missed it, basically the idea is to turn Facebook Messenger into more than just a messaging app. Facebook wants to turn it into a platform where the Messenger brand can be used for more than just sending messages to your Facebook friends.

The social network giant has reportedly taken cues from the likes of Asian messaging services such as WeChat and LINE, both of which are at their core messaging apps, but offer much more than that, such as camera apps, games, and so on. In fact last year we could have gotten a glimpse at Facebook’s plan when they launched Stickered For Messenger, an app that allows users to add stickers from Messenger to photos.

The Facebook F8 conference will be kicking off from the 25-26th of March so we should have all the official details very soon, so be sure to check back with us later for more information.
