c3_lollipopAccording to a recent tweet, Sony confirmed that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update would only be making its way onto its Xperia Z series of handsets, which is basically Sony saying that only their higher-end devices would be treated to the update. However a recent screenshot has surfaced which shows the Sony Xperia C3 running Android 5.0.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the handset is running the firmware build 19.2.1.A.0.222. This is compared to the Android 4.4 KitKat build which is build number 19.2.1.A.0.72, suggesting that this is indeed a pretty huge jump indicating that we might be looking at a major update like one from Android 4.4 to Android 5.0.

It could also be an indication that Sony could be rethinking about bringing Android 5.0 to some of their non-Xperia Z handsets given that we’re sure many users were probably upset with Sony’s decision. However if we had to speculate, an alternative possibility could be that the update did not run as smoothly as Sony would have liked on lower-end devices, which might be the reason why they are skipping non-Xperia Z handsets to begin with.

In any case we guess we have no choice but to play the waiting game and see if Sony changes their mind, but as far as their recent tweet is concerned, the official word is still the same and that there will not be an Android 5.0 Lollipop update save for Xperia Z handsets.
