sony-xperia-z3-z3v-review-05In case it wasn’t obvious by now, Sony did not announce their new flagship smartphone the Xperia Z4 at MWC 2015. What does this mean? Well it pretty much means that we can only expect to see the announcement later on in the year, but just in case you were a bit skeptical, Sony has reassured us that the phone will be coming.

This is according to Tim Harrison, Sony’s VP of Global Communications and PR who spoke to the folks at TrustedReviews. According to Harrison, “Z4 is the next-generation of product that we’ll be announcing.” Harrison also stated that Sony has not moved to a more traditional 12 mount product cycle.

This is relatively good news because the Xperia Z3 was launched in September of last year, and if Sony were to stick to a 12-month product cycle, it means that we can only expect the Xperia Z4 in September of this year. However this also means that the phone could pretty much be announced anytime from now until then.

Sony also claims that the Xperia Z3 lineup is still receiving a fair amount of interest from the public which is why they have chosen to continue to focus on that range instead by offering updated features. “These are doing really well in the market and there is still quite a considerable amount of interest in those particular products and since we’ve announced them, we’ve updated a number of features. We’ve introduced Remote Play, there are more camera themes and there are more camera apps.”
