android 51 lollipop

I’m sure many owners of the original Moto X might have wondered at some point whether or not their device would receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. It’s nearly two years old and has relatively dated hardware but there’s hope yet. According to a new report Motorola has now started testing Android 5.1 for Moto X first-gen.

Motorola was one of the first OEMs to roll out Android 5.0 to its devices when Google launched the software late last year. It also conducted soak tests for the Moto X first-gen and even though the release timeframe was delayed a couple of times, Android 5.0 for Moto X was finally released last month.

Since Android 5.1 is the next major update it would have been fair to assume that perhaps Moto X might miss out on this update. This particular version has already been released for the Moto X (2014) so it’s not like Motorola hasn’t worked with this software.

The report claims that Motorola has started testing Android 5.1 for the Moto X first-gen. It’s unclear at this point in time just how long will it take for this update to exit the testing stage and possibly arrive for all Moto X owners across the globe.

Motorola has previously said that it’s going to provide updates for this device until the end of 2015 so it seems more than likely that Android 5.1 will arrive for this device soon enough.
