It has only been a couple of weeks since Google released Android 5.1. OEMs haven’t even finished rolling out Android 5.0.x for their devices so it’s going to take some time before they update their devices to Android 5.1. Seems like Google already has the next update in the pipeline. The Android SDK Manager has revealed that Android 5.1.1 exists and that it will arrive at some point in the future.
Android 5.0 had a nasty memory leak bug that many users experienced. Google tried squashing it with Android 5.1 but it appears that there’s work left to be done.
So in order to do that the company needs to come up with yet another software update. Android 5.1.1 will hopefully fix the memory leak bug once and for all.
At least now we know that Google has already started working on it. It’s possible that the Android Open Source Project might soon be updated to this version.
Since there is no official confirmation of this update as yet it cannot be said at this point in time when Google intends to release Android 5.1.1. Nexus devices will obviously be the first to receive this update before its seeded to manufacturers, wh0 then send it to carriers before the update ultimately makes its way to end users.
