it180-drone

Over the past few months several unauthorized drone flights over important landmarks and government buildings have spooked Paris residents and have law enforcement agencies worried. It’s not known for sure if these flights were conducted by hobbyists looking to get a good shot of some of the most iconic buildings in Paris or whether there are some nefarious plans behind these flights. A French company called ECA has rushed to law enforcement’s aide by building a drone that can clamp down on unauthorized drone flights.

ECA has developed “innovative on-board technology” for its IT180 drone which is capable of locating malicious drone operators in under one minute.

When an unauthorized drone flight is spotted the IT180 will be dispatched to triangulate the pilot’s position. Once the pilot has been located the drone will snap their mugshot and then alert the local police station so can then apprehend the pilot.

ECA isn’t explaining exactly how the technology on-board its drone is capable of doing this, but does say that the technology will make it “impossible” for malicious operators to disappear and evade the force of law.

Apparently French authorities have tested the system twice and were “fully satisfied” with its capabilities, which include locating malicious drone pilots in under one minute in a radius as wide as 700 meters.
