When Overwatch was announced by Blizzard last year, the game appeared to have a rather full roster which seemed to suggest that the game’s development was pretty far along and the character lineup was more or less set in stone. However that does not appear to be the case as Blizzard has introduced a new hero to the game.

Dubbed Soldier: 76, this is the latest hero that Blizzard will be adding to the Overwatch game. To explain the character and to introduce it to gamers, Blizzard has also released an origin story for Soldier: 76 which you can check out in the video above, with Blizzard describing the character as, “Currently the target of an international manhunt, the vigilante known as Soldier: 76 wages a personal war to expose the truth behind Overwatch’s collapse.”

They add, “While his true identity remains a mystery, he is believed to have been trained as a member of the American “soldier enhancement program.” He possesses physical capabilities exceeding those of a conventional soldier’s, as well as other augmentations that make him a peerless combatant. In addition, he utilizes a cutting-edge arsenal, much of it stolen in raids on Overwatch installations.”

In the meantime an official release date for Overwatch has yet to be determined, but according to the Overwatch website, the beta for the game is expected to begin this fall, This means that chances of us seeing the game in its final form will most likely be at the end of the year, or possibly 2016.
