The BlackBerry Priv has been officially confirmed by the Canadian company. The company’s CEO John Chen penned a blog post that details the device and explains why the company chose to launch an Android phone. Now in an exclusive interview with Business News Network (BNN), Chen has actually demoed the device on video.

As you can see in the video above, this is pretty much the first time ever that we have gotten a look at the BlackBerry Priv in an official capacity. Previously all we had to go on were leaks and renders which at that time, still had the slight chance of being wrong. However if this video is anything to go by, it seems that all the leaks and rumors have since been corroborated.

The demo itself isn’t particularly enlightening as Chen does not really walk us through the entire device, but we do get a glimpse at the phone, the fact that it runs on Android, and of course the slide-out keyboard feature which according to Chen, has always been something of a crowd-pleaser.

He also notes that the keyboard will act similarly to the one on the BlackBerry Passport. This means that users can slide their fingers over the keyboard to perform gestures instead of touching the screen. He also confirms that the slightly curved edges of the display marks it as the first time the company has tried anything like this with their phones. If you have a couple of minutes to spare, do check it out in the video above.
