For many Facebook users changing their profile picture on the world’s largest social network is a pretty big decision, most of them wouldn’t want to swap out a “good” picture for a “bad” picture. One of the ways that people support causes on Facebook is by swapping out their profile picture and to make that much easier the company is testing temporary profile pictures which will automatically go away on their own after a set number of hours, days or weeks.

This feature will allow Facebook users to temporarily set a new profile photo for a set number of hours, days or weeks. Facebook tells TechCrunch that this feature is being developed to make it easier for people who like to use their profile pictures to support a cause, commemorate milestones like anniversaries or birthdays and even support their favorite teams.

Basically what this feature will allow users to do is set a temporary picture which expresses how they’re feeling at that particular moment before that picture goes away on its own and reverts back to the original picture at an appropriate time.

The feature is currently in testing though Facebook is reportedly looking at rolling out temporary profile pictures to all of its one billion-plus users across the globe in the next few months.
