There’s a greater push now to shift towards renewable energy sources like solar power and already there are dozens of companies out there helping people to make the switch. SolarCity is one such company that manufactures solar panels, it was founded by Lyndon and Peter Rive, who also happen to be related to Elon Musk, the co-founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. The company claims to have made the world’s most efficient solar panel.
SolarCity claims that its new panel has a 22 percent module-level efficiency and that’s what makes it the most efficient solar panel in the world, the only from SolarCity rival SunPower’s X-Series come in with a 21.5 percent module-level efficiency.
To back its claims SolarCity provides results of independent testing done through a third-party, the Renewable Energy Test Center, which is a services and certification testing facility for solar panel products.
SolarCity has created the new panel through a proprietary processor which it claims not only increases the performance but also greatly brings down manufacturing cost.
The company initially plans on installing the new panels on carports and rooftops before moving on to commercial installations, it’s going to manufacture the new modules at its 100 MW pilot facility in Fremont, California before moving production to the 1 GW facility in Buffalo, New York.
