It was a while ago that camera makers like Sony and Olympus had the idea that attaching lenses with its own built-in sensor could be one way of improving mobile photography. This has resulted in lens cameras like the Sony QX30 that was launched last year, and now according to recent reports, a successor or at least a variant could be on its way.
The reports cite the registration of the QX30U name over in Russia via Novacert, which is where WiFi devices need to be registered with the government before they can be officially sold on the market today. Unfortunately apart from the name, not much is known about the QX30U but based on its name, it seems like it will based on the QX30.
For those unfamiliar with the QX30, this lens camera was launched in September 2014, meaning that we could be due for a refresh. Unlike the other QX models released by Sony, the QX30 is a zoom lens with 30x optical zoom. It also came with an auto-focus system that could track moving subjects, making it great if you’re trying to capture kids running around or if you want to do panning shots of cars and so on.
However those are the features of the QX30 and we have no idea what Sony might have in store for us with the QX30U, but the CP+ show will be held later this month in New York City, so perhaps we will find out more then.
