sony universal media remoteIf you own a PlayStation 4 and would love to be able to control the console, navigate the interface, use apps, play Blu-Ray discs and DVDs without having to rely on the controller, you might be interested to learn that Sony has announced plans to launch a Universal Media Remote control.

What does the remote do? Basically it does everything that we mention above. In addition to that and because of the “universal” in its name, the remote will also be able to control up to an additional three devices, like your TV, set-top box, and audio-receiver. So if you hate juggling multiple remote controls for each and every single device, this remote is for you.

In addition to being able to control devices, Sony has also stated that the remote will work will a range of apps. This includes Blu-ray Disc Player, Crunchyroll, FUNinmation, HBO GO, Media Player, NBA GAME TIME, Netflix, NFL Sunday Ticket, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Vue, Twitch, and YouTube.

The Universal Media Remote is set for a release on the 27th of October and is priced at $30. For those who are interested in getting their hands on it, pre-orders are currently open and can be placed via a variety of retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Toys R Us, so head on over to Sony’s website for the details.
