A new report reveals that Lionsgate has teamed up with Avatron Smart Park to build a 100 acre attraction in Atlanta, it’s going to feature rides based on some of the studio’s biggest movies like The Hunger Games and Now You See Me. According to the report this new theme park is scheduled to be opened to the public by 2019. Lionsgate will apparently be building more theme parks in locations like China and Dubai in the future.
Many might not immediately see the attraction in a theme park that’s based on a movie which is basically about a yearly competition where children are made to fight and kill each other that ultimately ends in a violent revolution.
Speaking to The New York Times Avatron vice chairman James Ram points out the positive aspects of the franchise, saying that there are many positives about The Hunger Games movies, “starting with the fact that she’s an empowered young woman,” he says of Katniss Everdeen, the main character in the franchise.
The report says that the theme park in Atlanta will feature a recreation of Katniss’ District 12 home, a roller coaster based on the high speed trains that link the Capitol with its districts and a virtual hovercraft tour of the Panem.
Whether or not the theme park will draw in crowds and ultimately prove to be profitable remains to be seen, and with the launch scheduled in 2019, we’ll have to wait for quite a bit to find out for sure.
