blackberry-priv-review_ubergizmo_13Wireless charging isn’t really a feature that will make or break a phone, at least not at this point in time. However it is a convenient feature to have and we’re sure no one would really complain if their phone had it. Now as we noted in our BlackBerry PRIV review, wireless charging is a feature that isn’t supported out of the box.

That is partially true, and it seems that a lot of it has to do with where you are buying the handset from. According to the folks at Mobile Syrup, they have discovered there are two models that are being sold. The STV100-3 which is version that is being sold by carriers, and the STV100-1 which is the model sold directly by BlackBerry.

If you were to purchase the phone from a carrier, then you would be out of luck as far as wireless charging is concerned. However if you buy it directly from BlackBerry US, your phone should support wireless charging. In fact the specs listed on BlackBerry’s website clearly states support for wireless charging by saying, “Dual mode Wireless Charging capable for Powermat (PMA) and Qi”.

According to an updated statement we have received from BlackBerry, “ALL devices purchased on ShopBlackBerry regardless of US or Canada have wireless charging, that being the Model STV100-1.” Hope this clears it up for some of our readers!
