Drones aren’t doing too well in mainstream news these days, where we have the authorities looking for owners of drones that have crashed into the Seattle Great Wheel as well as one that was suspected of startling a police horse that eventually led to its death through a chain of events. This time around, the city of Chicago is mulling over the ban of drones that take to the skies at more than 400 feet and above private property.
A City Council committee has paved the way forward where these stiff new regulations about drones are concerned, as they passed a local legislation that touches on the use of small, unmanned aircraft. Without having to trespass on existing federal rules that are imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration, the new ordinance will ensure that drone operators are not supposed to fly their drones without receiving prior consent over people or private property, schools, hospitals and places of worship or within five miles of an airport.
Not only that, there is also an altitude limit of 400 feet off the ground. It has been said that existing regulations have failed to keep up with developing drone technology, and the time is ripe to codify common-sense operations. Do you agree?
