As drones have become increasingly more popular governments and militaries have had to adapt to counter to this potential new threat, drones are no longer allowed near sensitive government and military installations. What happens though if a drone flies near the motorcade of the President of the United States? Well it surely causes concern for the Secret Service which is tasked with protecting the president at all costs.
These days President Obama is on vacation in Hawaii and as he travelled in Honolulu with his motorcade a situation caused a security concern.
The Secret Service treated it as a suspicious object and agents were immediately dispatched to locate the pilot. It turns out that he had no nefarious designs, he simply didn’t know that the president’s motorcade would be taking that route. That does make sense since the route for the president’s motorcade is almost always kept a secret.
A spokeswoman for the Secret Service later confirmed that the run-in with the drone didn’t interrupt the motorcade, adding that the pilot was completely unaware that the motorcade would be taking that route. He immediately complied with requests to cease and desist. The motorcade proceeded without any incidents and no charges were filed against the pilot.
