Ever since Microsoft made their own Surface tablets, there has been talks that Microsoft might also be interested in creating their own Surface phones. These speculations have been making their rounds for the past couple of years, but recently an article from WIRED has provided some evidence that the phone does exist.However if you’re looking for more official confirmation, you’re in luck because during a recent Windows Weekly show, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela dropped some hints to suggest that the Surface phone is an actual device and not one that we’ve all made up in our heads.
According to Capossela who was talking about the recent successes of the Surface series of tablets, he said, “We need some sort of spiritual equivalent on the phone side that doesn’t just feel like it’s a phone for people who love Windows. It’s got to be a phone where it’s like, ‘Wow, that’s a real shock or that’s a real breakthrough, and that’s going to make me (as a hypothetical Apple fan) pause before I buy my 17th iPhone.’ And we need time to actually go build that.”
Naturally he does not come right out to say that this device he’s referring to is the Surface phone, but it certainly sounds like it. After all if he was talking about flagships he could have easily referenced the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. No word on when we might actually see the mythical device, but hopefully 2016 will be that year.
