Leica-M-Typ-262-top-plateIn the past we have seen how some high-end tech companies like Bang & Olufsen have managed to integrate their technology into smartphones. In fact we have seen this done before for cameras as well, where Nokia used to work with Carl Zeiss for the cameras on their smartphones. However now it looks like Leica has entered the fray as well.

In an announcement, both Leica and Huawei have announced a partnership in which both companies will be working together on developing smartphone cameras. What this means is that in the future, it is possible that we could see the famous Leica red dot on some of Huawei’s flagship smartphones.

Unfortunately it is unclear as to what will be the result of this partnership, but you can bet that we are pretty excited. Leica has teamed up with other companies in the past, like with Panasonic in some of Panasonic’s cameras come with Leica lenses. Leica has also taken some of Panasonic’s cameras and rebranded them and sells them at a higher price.

Now whether or not this will result in a phone with a killer camera remains to be seen. However like we said, it is an interesting collaboration and also a great way for Huawei to start appealing to more customers who might be more discerning in what they require from their smartphones.
