Hulu Japan And HBO Inks Exclusive SVOD Licensing Arrangement

hulu-japanIt looks like visual entertainment in your living room over in the Land of the Rising Sun has gotten a whole lot more fun, with word that Hulu in Japan has inked a deal with HBO, where they will now obtain licensing SVOD rights to acclaimed HBO classics such as the global seat gripper ‘Game of Thrones,’ in addition to a slew of other HBO series which will include the likes of ‘Silicon Valley’, making it a first in Japan.

This expansive new licensing deal will see Hulu in Japan gain unprecedented exclusive subscription video on demand (SVOD) rights to hundreds of hours of programming from HBO’s library, which should keep not only the locals happy, but also the expatriate community, we believe. From today onward, Hulu will introduce the remarkable HBO catalogue, where viewers can stream on demand their favorite shows, including ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘The Sopranos’.

Not only that, Hulu intends to expand its content selection to more than 800 episodes from HBO’s programming portfolio, now how about that for killing time at home? We do wonder whether this might see traction picking up for Windows 10 over in that part of the world with such an announcement, and we keep our fingers crossed that next day streaming and a commercial-free viewing experience will also be part of the deal.
