Fans of the Doom franchise have been waiting for a long time to find out more about the upcoming Doom game and they’ll be happy to find out today that developer Id Software has confirmed that the Doom closed beta kicks off later this month. The closed beta will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and will be live until April 3rd.

If you bought Wolfenstein: The New Order and redeemed the beta code then you’ll be able to access the closed beta of Doom. You’re out of luck if didn’t buy that game.

This is the first new game in the Doom franchise since Doom 3 was released back in 2004. The franchise has sold more than 10 million copies overall so naturally there’s a big fanbase that just can’t wait to see what the developer has in store.

The closed beta is more than just a way for Id Software to provide fans with an early glimpse of the game. Developers use open and closed betas to find out bugs and kinks in games that need to be worked out so it’s quite important to the entire process of fine tuning the game.

Doom is going to be released on May 14th, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It’s likely that an open beta of this game will be launched prior to its release later this year.
