UberEats started off as an experiment and now the ride-hailing service sees enough potential in its standalone food delivery app to expand it to a dozen cities. Uber has announced today that its new UberEats app is now available to users based in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston. Over the next few weeks, the food delivery app is also going to go live in New York City, Washington, Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Seattle and even international cities which include Melbourne and Paris.

UberEats was previously an option in Uber’s main app and the option was only available to users in cities where the company was offering this service. It aims to make ordering food through its service easier by rolling out a standalone UberEats app.

Customers will be able to check out the menus of “hundreds of local restaurants” throughout the week and place their orders from within the app. Those who are in a rush can get food delivered to them as little as ten minutes by using the Instant Delivery menu.

There isn’t really a shortage of companies that are competing for the chance to deliver your food but with this move, Uber is signalling that it’s serious about making its mark in this market, and with vast resources at its disposal, the company finds itself in a good position to hit the ground running.
