BlackBerry had confirmed back when it launched the Priv that it would upgrade its first Android handset to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company has been very quick in getting the latest security patches out for its first Android device and it acknowledges that many of its users have been asking for the Marshmallow update. Today, the BlackBerry Priv Marshmallow beta program has gone live, the company is inviting Priv owners to participate in the program and test the Marshmallow update for this handset in beta.

BlackBerry has kicked off the first beta program for Android in BlackBerry Beta Zone. Starting today, it’s inviting Priv owners to sign up and participate in the beta to contribute to testing Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the company’s first Android handset.

Marshmallow for BlackBerry Priv is going to bring all of the features that are part and parcel of this update, features include Now on Tap, Doze mode, more streamlined settings and improved permission and notifications experience. Since it’s BlackBerry, the software may also include security updates.

The first wave of beta testers must have purchased their Priv from BlackBerry online, through Amazon or Carphone Warehouse. Space in the beta program is limited so new registrations first join a waitlist from which participants are selected as the program is expanded further. The first group of participants will get their invites later this week.
