yunicornYU has come up with some decent handsets in the past, although you can be sure that they will not blaze a trail or leave a legacy in the same vein as that of the iPhone or the Samsung Galaxy S series. Still, this does not mean that the company is simply going to roll over and go belly up. In fact, just two days back, YU had begun to tease their upcoming smartphone that is touted to launch some time later this May, with it being officially known as the Yunicorn.

This is a pretty unique name to call itself, that is for sure, as the Yunicorn is a play on the mythical creature of whom only virgins are able to ride on, not to mention in certain literary circles, it is anathema to kill a unicorn and drink its blood. Hopefully the Yunicorn will no be as elusive as its fictional counterpart by the time it arrives on the market at an event in New Delhi on May 19.

Simply called to be a handset that will “redefine flagships”, it would be interesting to see just how it will do so – will it be through sheer hardware configuration alone, or will it rely on a potent combination of hardware and software tweaks and enhancements?
