android_malwareHave you ever checked your credit card statement and realized that there are some numbers that just don’t make sense? For example there are charges made to your card that you just can’t seem to recall ever making. This is when you usually call your bank to sort things out. It’s straightforward and that’s pretty much how everyone does it.

However it seems that a malware called Android.Fakebank will actually prevent you from calling your bank. The malware was discovered by Symantec way back in October 2013. It might be old but it seems that a newer version of the malware surfaced earlier this year in March and like we said, this is a malware that prevents its victim from calling the bank.

Of course this isn’t the end. You can always opt to call your bank from a different phone, a landline, send the bank an email, or head on over to the branch right away. However the idea is that if you can’t call your bank right away from your phone, it gives the hacker more time with your credit card to rack up more charges.

Thankfully for now Android.Fakebank is limited in terms of its infection. So far reports are claiming that it only affects users in South Korea and Russia, however if anything this also serves as a good reminder that you should be careful with where you download your apps from, and that usually downloading from authorized sources like Google’s Play Store will reduce the risk of getting hit by malware.
