Oppo is a company that we hear about every now and then, although to be fair most of their products tend to be sold within the Asian region. However could Oppo be a company that Apple and Samsung needs to keep an eye on in the future? Perhaps, especially with the numbers released by Counterpoint (via GSMArena) are accurate.
As you can see in the graph above, it shows that Oppo is the number one smartphone maker in the country. Back in 2014, it seems that Oppo’s presence was just but a blip on the radar, but fast forward two years and as far as any single brand is concerned, Oppo has managed to claw its way to the top of the pile with 22.9% of smartphones in China being made by the company.
Prior to this, Huawei and Xiaomi were leading the way but Oppo has since surpassed both of them. In fact Xiaomi, who had some pretty grand ambitions, appears to only make 6.8% of China’s smartphones, down from 15.1% in the previous year. Oppo’s market share right now is also more than both Apple and Samsung combined.
As to whether or not Oppo will be able to maintain and grow its lead over the next few years remains to be seen, but for now it looks like they are definitely a company worth keeping an eye on.
