Along with Mario, SEGA’s Sonic character is also one of the more recognized characters in video game history. So far we have been seeing Mario get remade and reintroduced in new games, and the good news for fans of Sonic is that it looks like the character will be getting a new game as well, sort of.

During Comic-Con, SEGA announced a new Sonic game called Sonic Mania. However this game won’t bring about new amazing graphics, but rather it will revert to a more familiar look that gamers have probably grown up with. This is a 2D game that according to SEGA, will feature “core classic gameplay” which will be head onto the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC come Spring 2017.

Yup, this means that we still have quite a bit of waiting to do, but if you do love all things Sonic, the trailer above does show that it looks rather promising. The game seems like a throwback of sorts and will feature reimagined areas from other Sonic games like Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles, along with new levels.

In the meantime while we wait patiently for the game, you can check out the game’s debut trailer in the video above. So, who else is excited for it?
