overwatch_summerThe Rio 2016 Olympic games will be kicking off this coming weekend. So far we’ve seen many companies celebrate the upcoming games, such as Google and YouTube making it easier to watch highlights and find results, to Apple creating Olympic-themed Apple Watch bands, and to Samsung creating an Olympic Edition smartphone.

Now it looks like Blizzard wants in on the Olympic action as well. According to a post on NeoGAF (via Videogamer.com), it seems that Blizzard will be creating sports themed skins for Overwatch characters. It won’t be just limited to skins as there will be poses and other cosmetic effects that will be available for a limited time.

These cosmetic effects will be available through the “Summer Games Loot Boxes” that players will be able to purchase in-game. The boxes can be purchased using either real money or they can be earned, although the former will probably be a faster (but more expensive) way of collecting all these skins and cosmetic effects.

It has also been speculated that Blizzard could be releasing a new map and game mode coming that will be related to the Olympics, which we reckon sounds like a lot of fun. There will be over 90 new Summer Games items to collect, so if you’re one of those gamers that has to have it all, good luck!
