transformersIt is probably safe to say that without Michael Bay’s Transformers movies that the franchise would not be as widely known as it is today, especially since kids these days are pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to cartoons and TV shows, what with iPads and mobile games being very viable alternatives.

That being said, if you love the Transformers franchise warts and all, you’ll be pleased to learn that developer Kabam and Hasbro will be teaming up to create a mobile MMORPG based on the Transformers. Kabam has games like Fast & Furious: Legacy and Marvel Contest of Champions under their belt, so obviously they know what they’re doing.

According to a Kabam spokesperson who spoke to VentureBeat, they say that the game “will be span all of Transformers lore tied to Generations. There will be movie elements, of course, at major beats for all the films over the coming years, but this is a Kabam/Hasbro deal, and not a Kabam/Paramount Deal. [It’s] less movie-centric, but will still be supported with film content when it makes sense.”

Mark Blecher, senior vice president of digital gaming and corporate development at Hasbro adds, “Hasbro is committed to creating authentic Transformers experiences on every platform where fans have a presence and this partnership with Kabam is the latest step in our ongoing commitment to delivering, rich, engaging stories in the mobile space.” No word on when it will be released, but chances are we’ll be looking at 2017.
