Amazon has gradually been improving its digital personal assistant Alexa’s capabilities over the past year and it’s now capable of doing so much more than when it was initially launched. According to a new report, Amazon is working on a big update for Alexa which will enable the assistant to automatically speak out certain notifications that are deemed important by the user. Alexa will be able to speak out those notifications on its own without needing to be invoked by the user first.

Currently, Alexa is completely dependent on the user to invoke it so that it can get stuff done for them, whether that be streaming music or hailing an Uber. A user has to ask Alexa to do something before it actually goes on and does it.

The Information reports that Amazon will soon enable Alexa to say push notifications out loud on its own. How it’s going to implement this feature remains to be seen, because Amazon would certainly not want users to be bombarded with notifications all the time, notifications that they don’t want to be spoken out loud.

One can presume that Amazon is going to give users strict control over this feature so only they can decide when and which notifications Alexa has permission to say out loud. The scribe says that it’s unclear at this point in time which apps and skills will be able to take advantage of this new feature first.
