Woman Sues Parents For Posting Childhood Photos On Facebook

facebook-unfollowIt has been suggested in the past that parents should not be so eager to share photos of their babies and young children on social media. There are a variety of reasons for this, such as privacy, protecting your children from predators, preventing your child’s photo from being used in the wrong way, and so on.

However it seems that now we can add another reason to the list: to prevent yourself from getting sued by your own kid. An 18-year old woman from Carinthia, Austria, is apparently suing her parents for posting “embarrassing” and “revealing” photos of her growing up on social media.

According to a report from The Local, the woman claims her parents shared about 500 images of her without her consent, ranging from her getting her diaper changed to potty training, and that these images have apparently “violated her rights to a personal life”. The woman (who chose to remain anonymous) said, “They knew no shame and no limit – and didn’t care whether it was a picture of me sitting on the toilet or lying naked in my cot – every stage was photographed and then made public.”

She also says that she asked her parents to take the photos down, but her dad argues that since he took them, he owns them and he has the right to use them as he wishes. “I’m tired of not being taken seriously by my parents,” she says, which is why there is now a lawsuit. It does sound like quite a messy situation but what do you guys make of this?
