New Report ‘Confirms’ Iris Scanner For The Galaxy S8

galaxy-note-7-user-interface_09It’s really anyone’s guess as to what kind of hardware Samsung could be packing into the Galaxy S8 in 2017. We have heard some rumors here and there, although if there is one rumor that is pretty consistent it would be that the phone will feature the same iris scanner found in the now-discontinued Note 7.

Now thanks to a report from the Korea Herald, it looks like the rumors have gained more traction. The report claims, “Taking a hint from comments of Samsung mobile chief Koh Dong-jin at a launch event of the Note 7, Samsung will have an improved iris scanning technology fitted in the S8, which will be unveiled in February next year.”

Like we said, this isn’t the first time that the rumors of an iris scanner coming to the Galaxy S8 have surfaced. We heard about such rumors way back in August, and to a certain extent it makes sense. After all Samsung did introduce the feature in the Note 7, and it would be a waste if they weren’t going to use it again.

So far reviews of the feature have found that it is pretty speedy in unlocking devices, although there is a slight inconvenience compared to using a fingerprint as you’d have to lift your phone up to your eyes all the time. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but with reports that Samsung is apparently trying to clamp down on Galaxy S8 leaks, don’t be surprised if the rumor mill starts getting quieter in the future.
