Huawei’s latest flagship, the Mate 9, might come with Nougat straight out of the box but last year’s flagship is still waiting for the Android 7.0 update. Interestingly, the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Huawei Mate 8 has been leaked online and that too by Huawei itself. The update file is actually available to download from Huawei’s servers even though the company has not officially announced the Nougat rollout for the Mate 8.

It’s likely that the Mate 8 Nougat update may not be officially rolled out until the Huawei Mate 9 is actually released. The company would want its latest flagship to offer the best in both hardware and software for some time before at least the latter is made available to last year’s flagship.

The update file for Huawei Mate 8 hasn’t been removed from the company’s servers yet. Many XDA forum members have been able to download and successfully flash it on their handsets. There’s a post up on the forum now with all of the relevant details on how to download the update and flash it on the Mate 8.

Do keep in mind that manually flashing firmware on an Android device can prove to be tricky particularly if you have no experience with this sort of thing. If you’re one of those users it would be best to steer clear and wait until Huawei officially releases Nougat for the Mate 8.

If something goes wrong during the flashing process you will only have yourself to blame.
