Nintendo showed off its next-generation console a few weeks ago and it’s going to reveal more technical details about the Nintendo Switch on January 12th, 2017. From what we’ve seen so far, the Nintendo Switch can be docked when the intention is to play games on the big screen and it can be undocked for portable gaming. According to a new report, Nintendo Switch clock speeds are 40 percent lower when the console is undocked.
Digital Foundry reports, citing multiple unnamed sources, that the Nintendo Switch clock speeds are reduced by 40 percent when the system is taken out of its dock. GPU speeds are said to be drastically different between the two modes while available CPU and memory controller speeds apparently remain the same regardless of whether the console is docked or not.
Concerns have already been expressed on the upcoming console’s performance. Recent reports suggest that it’s going to be less powerful than the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One since the custom NVIDIA chip powering the Nintendo console is likely only going to hit 768 MHz at its peak.
None of this has been officially confirmed by Nintendo and we can’t really expect the company to say much about this given that it already has an event scheduled for early next month. Nintendo is also going to take the Switch on a nationwide tour so that the general public can play it before it’s released in March next year.
