If there is an argument to be made for self-driving cars, it would be that they will be able to adhere to the speed limits on the roads, whereas humans might try to get creative which can sometimes lead to accidents. Tesla’s autopilot feature, which is not a self-driving tool FYI, used to allow drivers to set the speed to be over the limit, but not anymore.

According to a report from Electrek, they have heard from various Tesla owners that an update has been released for their vehicles in which Tesla’s autopilot mode will now be sticking to the speed limit if they’re driving on undivided highways. On divided highways, this feature doesn’t come into effect and instead the autopilot mode will be limited to 90mph.

We guess this is a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. From a safety point of view, this is great as it means that cars will now stay within the limits. However for those who want to go a bit faster, we reckon it’s a bit frustrating but hey, you can always take over and drive by yourself if you want to go faster.

That being said, there does appear to be some bugs with the latest update. A tweet by Jason Hughes revealed that despite the speed limit being set at 65mph, Tesla’s software locked him in at 50mph which is clearly disconcerting (and dangerous for cars behind you) if you’re driving and suddenly your car decelerates for no good reason.
