Sports broadcasters have gradually been embracing virtual reality which is why over the past year we’ve seen some big sporting events being streamed live in virtual reality. Fox Sports is now going to do this for the biggest television event of the year. It’s going to let you watch Super Bowl 51 in virtual reality.

Fox Sports is teaming up with LiveLike to stream the big game in virtual reality via its app on the Samsung Gear VR headset or the Google Cardboard viewer. Those who don’t have the headset will be able to view the 360-degree video on their mobile device as well.

It’s going to stream the game in a “virtual suite” and offer six viewpoints to choose from inside the suit. Fox will later upload 20 of the most exciting highlights from the game in almost real-time. Expect four of these highlights per quarter aside from highlights of the pre- and post-game coverage.

If you intend to stream Super Bowl 51 in VR using the Fox Sports VR app, do keep in mind that you will need a cable subscription in order to be able to log into the app. If you don’t have a cable subscription then you’re out of luck. So if you can’t be in Houston to watch the big game in person, this is possibly the next best thing.
