It’s going to take a few years until commercial 5G is properly deployed. Mobile carriers are working on testing the next-generation network as they seek to prepare themselves for this inevitable upgrade. They’re running various tests to ensure that they keep themselves ahead in the race to commercial 5G. Verizon is helping its agenda as well by announcing today that it’s going to conduct 5G trials in 11 cities across the United States by mid-2017.

Verizon has confirmed today that it’s going to roll out “pre-commercial” 5G service to select users in 11 cities in the United States by mid-2017. Big Red actually announced at the Mobile World Congress last year that it was going to conduct initial tests on 5G.

However, this is going to be the first time that the carrier finally makes its 5G network available to select users in a handful of markets. Pilot customers in Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Bernardsville, Brockton, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, Sacramento, Seattle, and Washington, DC will be allowed to participate in these trials.

The detail what people are most interested in hasn’t been confirmed by Verizon yet. The carrier is yet to say what kind of speeds these pilot customers can expect to experience during the test roll out of its 5G network. Verizon also hasn’t said if it plans on extending these tests to additional markets across the United States.
