With the upcoming season of HBO’s Game of Thrones being its second last season, we’re sure many fans are going to be sad because come 2018, it means that the series will be coming to an end. Sure there are the official books which have yet to be released, but for those who prefer watching than reading, this is sad news.

However there is some good news which was recently confirmed by George R.R. Martin who is the author of the series. In a post on Martin’s blog, he confirmed that there are five potential Game of Thrones spin-offs in the works. Note that these are potential spin-offs and that not every single one of them will be made into a show. This shouldn’t really be that surprising since having too many would ultimately lead to the franchise being diluted.

According to Martin, “We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four.” He adds, “What we do have here is an order for four — now five — pilot scripts. How many pilots will be filmed, and how many series might come out of that, remains to be seen. (If we do get five series on the air, I might have to change my name to Dick Direwolf).”

That being said, we’ve known that there are spin-offs that are being considered, but to learn that there are potentially five is rather exciting. Whether or not they’ll live up to the hype and reputation of the original HBO series remains to be seen.
