Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 660 processor earlier this year in May. It’s gradually making its way into more mid-range smartphones. A new rumor out of China brings us the purported technical specifications of the Snapdragon 660’s successor. It’s a bit too soon but then again, timing is never something that the rumor mill concerns itself with.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 is built on the 14nm technology. It has 8 Kryo 260 CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz. It was the first 600-series SoC from Qualcomm to have Kryo CPU. It was coupled with Adreno 512 graphics processor which provided 30 percent improved graphics performance compared to its predecessor.

The rumor out of China suggests that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 is going to be built on the 10nm process and that it’s going to have next-generation Kryo cores. The octacore configuration is said to include 2 high power Kryo 360 cores and 6 low poer cores.

It’s also claimed that the new chip will utilize ARM’s DynamIQ tech. It’s the successor to the big.LITTLE configuration and happens to be more flexible. The chip will also move on to the next generation of Adreno GPU. It will likely have a 6 series GPU compared to the 5 series one found on the Snapdragon 660.

It’s claimed that Qualcomm is going to officially announce this processor early next year. It may take a few months after that for this chip to make its way into smartphones.
