Snapchat is reportedly going to improve its video offering by launching its own scripted original content. According to a new report, Snapchat has already worked with many creators to develop shows for its platform. Partnerships have included tie-ins for broadcast behemoths like The Voice and The Bachelor. So it would make sense for the company to branch into this space on its own.

This won’t be Snapchat’s first try with original scripted content. The company tried its hand at this previously but failed miserably. It had launched a series called Literally Can’t Even back in 2015 which was blasted in reviews.

Variety reports that Snapchat has an entirely new approach this time around, which means that it might possibly avoid the fate of Literally Can’t Even. The scribe adds that at least some of its original scripted content is likely to debut by the end of 2017.

It costs a significant amount of money to develop original scripted shows which is probably why Snapchat has avoided this medium for the past couple of years. The company’s recent quarters have given investors cause for concern as the numbers are not what they would like to see.

Snapchat might finally be banking on its possibility to become a wide-ranging video consumption platform for younger audiences, who now seem to be preferring it over Facebook. That might help the company chart new avenues for growth.
