Your YouTube viewing experience is about to get more social. The Google-owned company has sent out an update for its mobile app today that adds a mobile-only messaging feature. This in-app feature enables users to share a video with friends and even chat about it in a private thread. All of this happens inside the YouTube app which makes it much easier to share videos that you think your friends might be interested in.

This feature was actually launched only in Canada earlier this year but now it has been released for all YouTube users across the globe.

The feature works in a fashion similar to the default Messages app in Android. Users can share a video with a contact or with several contacts in a group. They can also chat about it without having to leave the YouTube app.

It’s also possible to respond to a shared video with another video. Users can do that by tapping on the reel icon and searching for the relevant video. This messaging feature has been built into the YouTube share button. It lets users select contacts from their phone’s contact lists. They can also get a direct link to share and add new friends to the thread.
