HMD Global released the Nokia 8 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat last month. It’s no secret that the handset is compatible with Android 8.0 Oreo and will receive the update in the future. It may arrive sooner rather than later. It has been confirmed that HMD Global is now testing the Nokia 8 Oreo update.

The confirmation came from HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas on Twitter. He tweeted that the folks at Nokia Mobile are working on the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Nokia 8. He added that the firmware update will be released “when perfect.”

He also shared images of a beta version of Oreo for the Nokia 8. The update size is mentioned as 1.3GB but that may or may not be the size of the final build as it’s not uncommon for more additions to be made to beta firmware before it’s finalized.

When asked about the other handsets in the Nokia lineup that will receive the Oreo update, Sarvikas also confirmed that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 will be updated to Oreo as well. However, he did not confirm whether the firmware update was being tested currently for those handsets as well.

Many Nokia fans have asked if HMD Global has any plans of launching an Android beta program for Oreo on its devices. There hasn’t been a definitive word from the company about one as yet but it hasn’t been ruled out so far.
