The company making Nokia smartphones, HMD Global, has been quick to release Android 9 Pie update this year for several of its handsets. Last year’s flagship, the Nokia 8, was still without Pie but the company is rectifying that today. HMD Global has confirmed that it’s finally rolling out the Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie update today.

HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has confirmed through Twitter that the Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie update is now rolling out. As is the case with major software updates of this kind, the roll out will be phased, which means that it will take a couple of days at least for the update to go live across all regions.

This is a welcome announcement for Nokia 8 users who have been waiting to get a taste of Pie on their handsets as well. It was expected that the update would be out soon given that HMD Global released a beta Pie firmware for the device just a few days ago.

The update will bring some of Pie’s best features to the Nokia 8 in addition to some user interface changes. Since it’s from before HMD Global’s Android One days, it won’t have a near stock UI much like some of Nokia’s recent smartphones.
