Our smartphones are huge distractions and there’s no doubt about that. This is why we can imagine how difficult it must be to study/work at your desk and keep seeing notifications popping up on your display, tempting you to tend to them. However designer Klemens Schillinger might have the answer for you.

Schillinger has created what is being referred to as the “offline lamp. Its outside appearance looks like a regular table lamp, one that has been designed with minimalism in mind and sports a very clean and sleek look, but it also has a drawer compartment that allows users to put in their smartphone. But this isn’t just a regular drawer, but it is a drawer that once it detects an object has been placed inside will turn the lamp on.

This means that in order to trade for the light’s functionality, you will have to give up something, like your smartphone, which hopefully will keep you distracted free until you are done with your work. We’re not sure if it is smartphone specific or if any object can be placed inside, but since the technical detailers are scarce, we can only assume the former.

It is also unclear if this lamp is merely a concept cooked up by Schillinger or if it is an actual product that can be bought, but either way what do you guys think? Smart idea, or simply novel?
