With Square Enix announcing that they will be parting ways with IO Interactive, it felt like the future of the Hitman franchise was in doubt, although it was later revealed that IO Interactive would be retaining the rights to the franchise. The good news is that the company is definitely not letting those rights go to waste.

In a post on IO Interactive’s website, the developer has announced that a new Hitman game is in the works. Details about the game are scarce at this point, but it seems that Hakan, the CEO of IO Interactive just wanted to let fans know that the franchise is alive and well, and that they are definitely working on something new.

According to the blog post, “One last thing about our next Hitman game; I want to let you know that we’re making great progress and we have exciting new features and some franchise firsts, which we can’t wait to tell you all about. You’ll have to wait a little longer as we don’t plan to start talking about that until some point in 2018.”

Based on this post it sounds like we could be waiting a while before anything is officially confirmed, but we guess at the very least it looks like something is being done about it.
