The Hitman game franchise has been around for a very long time and it has tons of fans across the globe. The last game that was released in this franchise was very well received. However, it may be a while before the next arrives, because new Hitman games have been put on hold. The reason why they’ve been put on hold is because Square Enix has parted ways with Hitman developer IO Interactive.

Square Enix has announced that it’s withdrawing its investment in IO Interactive, the developer of Hitman games, and it’s booking a $43 million loss in the process.

This doesn’t mean that no new Hitman games are going to be released in the future, but that future is uncertain right now. Square Enix is said to be negotiating with new potential investors who might want to purchase the studio.

The last game, simply titled Hitman, was released as an episodic title. A total of seven episodes were released in the first season which were released periodically throughout 2016. They were well received by fans of the franchise but the game itself was overlooked by most gamers due to the availability of other big titles as well as the episodic release schedule.

As it stands, it’s going to be a while before the business side of things is taken care of. Until that happens, work may not begin on a new Hitman game. Who knows how long that’s going to take.
