Nokia 9 Could Ditch The Headphone Jack As Well

We have been hearing rumors that HMD Global could have a Nokia phone in the works dubbed the Nokia 9, but to date the handset has yet to be announced. Instead HMD announced the Nokia 8, which for all intents and purposes is the current Nokia flagship smartphone, but recent leaks have suggested that the Nokia 9 is real and could be coming soon.

In the latest rendering obtained by the folks at NPU, it shows the back and bottom portion of the Nokia 9. What’s noticeable straightaway is how the handset will not feature the 3.5mm headphone jack, meaning that just like many other Android OEMs, HMD will be ditching the port in favor of USB-C. We know that this will be quite an inconvenience, but it is expected to become the standard of the future, so we guess we might as well start embracing it.

That being said, the rendering does seem to be in line with some of the leaked renders we’ve seen previously. Assuming it is accurate, it could mean that the Nokia 9 could pack a 3D edge display, somewhat similar to the design Samsung uses for its Galaxy S8 smartphone, and it could also pack anywhere between 6-8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, IP68 certification, and also a fingerprint sensor.

Some have claimed that the Nokia 9 could be a US-exclusive phone, where since the Nokia 8 was not announced for the US market, HMD could choose to launch the Nokia 9 in its place.
